Who Is Feyre Archeron?

Feyre Archeron is the original protagonist of the ACOTAR series and the youngest of the three Archeron sisters. At the beginning of A Court of Thorns and Roses, Feyre is a nineteen-year-old human who hunts to keep her impoverished family alive. During one of her hunts, she kills a wolf that is actually a faerie named Andras.

Tamlin takes Feyre across the Wall as punishment for Andras’s death. She begins living at his estate in the Spring Court, where she slowly learns the truth about Prythian, Amarantha, and the curse placed upon Tamlin’s court.

Feyre eventually travels Under the Mountain and completes three trials to save Tamlin. Amarantha kills her after Feyre solves the final riddle, but the seven High Lords bring her back to life as High Fae.

Feyre Archeron’s Powers and Abilities

Each High Lord gives Feyre a small amount of his power when helping to resurrect her. As a result, Feyre carries magic connected to all seven courts. Her abilities include:

• Fire manipulation
• Water manipulation
• Healing
• Shapeshifting
• Darkness and shadow magic
• Light manipulation
• Winnowing
• Daemati abilities
• Mental shields

Feyre can enter, read, and influence minds. Rhysand helps her train these daemati abilities and teaches her how to protect her own mind. She can also alter her physical appearance through shapeshifting. This ability allows her to create Illyrian wings and change individual parts of her body.

Feyre and Rhysand

Feyre first meets Rhysand during Calanmai. Their relationship becomes more complicated Under the Mountain, where Rhys helps her survive while maintaining his position beside Amarantha.

After Feyre returns to the Spring Court, Rhys uses the bargain between them to bring her to the Night Court. Their time together allows Feyre to recover, train, and understand the political reality of Prythian. They eventually discover that they are mates. Feyre later becomes High Lady of the Night Court and rules beside Rhys as his equal. The couple has a son named Nyx in A Court of Silver Flames.

Who Is Rhysand?

Rhysand is the High Lord of the Night Court and one of the most powerful High Lords in Prythian’s history. He is the son of the former High Lord of the Night Court and an Illyrian mother. Rhys grew up training in an Illyrian war camp alongside Cassian and Azriel. The three became brothers in everything but blood. Rhys later brought Morrigan and Amren into the group that became his Inner Circle.

During Amarantha’s rule, Rhys spends nearly fifty years trapped Under the Mountain. He hides Velaris from Amarantha and protects the city by presenting himself as her willing ally. His actions leave the rest of Prythian believing that he is cruel, dangerous, and loyal only to himself.

Rhysand’s Powers and Abilities

Rhys is a daemati. He can read minds, communicate mentally, break through mental shields, and manipulate memories. His other abilities include:

• Darkness manipulation
• Winnowing
• Flight
• Illyrian combat
• High Lord magic
• Mental shields
• Beast transformation
• Reducing enemies to mist

Rhys normally conceals his Illyrian wings, but he can summon them when needed. He can also transform into a large winged beast associated with the power of the Night Court.

Rhysand and the Inner Circle

Rhys rules the Night Court with the help of the Inner Circle. Cassian commands the Night Court’s armies. Azriel works as Rhys’s spymaster. Morrigan serves as third-in-command and represents the court during political negotiations. Amren provides knowledge about ancient languages and magic. Feyre joins this group before becoming High Lady.

Rhys rules Velaris differently from the Court of Nightmares and the Illyrian territories. This division allows him to protect Velaris, but it also leaves several political problems unresolved within his own court.

Who Is Nesta Archeron?

Nesta Archeron is the eldest Archeron sister and the central heroine of A Court of Silver Flames. As a human, Nesta is proud, angry, and deeply protective of Elain. She resents Feyre but also crosses the Wall to search for her after Tamlin takes her to Prythian.

Nesta’s life changes when the King of Hybern forces her into the Cauldron. She refuses to surrender quietly and takes part of the Cauldron’s power with her when she emerges as High Fae.

The experience leaves her with severe trauma. After the war, Nesta isolates herself from her sisters and the Inner Circle. Feyre eventually sends her to live at the House of Wind and train with Cassian.

Nesta Archeron’s Powers and Abilities

Nesta’s power manifests as silver flames connected to death. Her abilities include:

• Silver fire
• Death magic
• Scrying
• Commanding the Dread Trove
• Creating Made objects
• Sensing magical objects
• Valkyrie combat

Nesta can use the Mask, the Harp, and the Crown. These objects respond to her because the Cauldron Made her. She also accidentally creates three Made weapons while using her power in the forge. One of them is Ataraxia, the sword Nesta names and later claims as her own weapon.. Nesta gives up much of her stolen power to save Feyre, Rhys, and Nyx. However, the Mother allows her to retain part of it.

Nesta, Gwyn, and Emerie

Nesta meets Gwyneth Berdara in the library beneath the House of Wind. She later invites Gwyn to train with her and Cassian. Emerie joins them after Nesta visits her shop in Windhaven. The three women develop a close friendship and revive the Valkyrie training methods.

Their friendship becomes an essential part of Nesta’s recovery. They enter the Illyrian Blood Rite together after being kidnapped and placed inside the Rite against their will. Gwyn and Emerie reach the summit of Ramiel and earn the rank of Carynthian, while Nesta stays behind at the Pass of Enalius to defend them. All three survive the Blood Rite.

Nesta and Cassian

Nesta and Cassian meet before the war with Hybern and immediately develop a tense attraction. Their relationship grows through arguments, shared battles, physical training, and the time they spend together at the House of Wind. They eventually acknowledge their mating bond. Nesta also accepts a permanent place beside Cassian, and within the family she spent years pushing away.

Who Is Cassian?

Cassian is an Illyrian warrior, the general of the Night Court’s armies, and a member of Rhysand’s Inner Circle. He was born outside marriage in an Illyrian war camp. His mother was forced to give him up, and Cassian spent much of his childhood without a permanent home.

After arriving at the same camp as Rhys and Azriel, Cassian begins training with them. Their early rivalry develops into a lifelong brotherhood. Cassian becomes one of the strongest Illyrian warriors in Prythian and commands the Night Court’s armies during the war with Hybern.

Cassian’s Powers and Abilities

Cassian possesses considerable Illyrian power and uses seven red Siphons to control it. His abilities include:

• Illyrian combat
• Flight
• Aerial warfare
• Military strategy
• Weapons training
• Siphon-based attacks
• Physical strength

Cassian can release destructive blasts of power through his Siphons. He is also an experienced commander who understands both large battles and individual combat. Unlike Azriel, Cassian often approaches problems directly. This makes him an effective battlefield leader but can create difficulties during political missions.

Cassian and Nesta

Their relationship begins with hostility, attraction, and repeated arguments. Cassian sees through many of Nesta’s attempts to push people away. Nesta, in turn, challenges his insecurities about his birth and position within the Night Court. Their relationship becomes the central romance of A Court of Silver Flames. They eventually accept their mating bond and choose to remain together.

Who Is Elain Archeron?

Elain Archeron is the middle Archeron sister. As a human, she loves flowers, gardening, and the quiet life she expects to build with her fiancé, Graysen.

The King of Hybern forces Elain into the Cauldron after using Nesta and Elain to demonstrate its power to the mortal queens. Elain emerges as High Fae, destroying the future she had planned in the human lands. Her transformation leaves her withdrawn and unable to understand the visions appearing in her mind.

Elain Archeron’s Powers

The Cauldron gives Elain the power of sight. Her visions initially sound like disconnected statements, but they describe real people, places, and future events. Elain predicts several important developments, including:

• The existence of Vassa
• The location of the Suriel
• Attacks connected to Hybern
• Events surrounding the Cauldron
• Danger that other characters cannot yet see

Elain also plays a direct role in the death of the King of Hybern. She uses Truth-Teller to stab him through the neck before Nesta delivers the final blow.

Elain and Lucien

Lucien realizes that Elain is his mate immediately after she emerges from the Cauldron. Elain does not accept or reject the bond. She remains uncomfortable around Lucien and rarely spends time alone with him. Lucien continues giving her gifts and visiting the Night Court, but their relationship remains distant.

Elain and Azriel

Elain and Azriel develop a quieter connection while living in the Night Court. Azriel understands Elain’s visions before the other characters recognize that she is a seer. He also lends her Truth-Teller during the war.

Their attraction becomes explicit in Azriel’s bonus chapter. Rhys stops Azriel from pursuing the relationship because of Elain’s mating bond with Lucien and the political consequences it could create.

Who Is Azriel?

Azriel is an Illyrian shadowsinger, the Night Court’s spymaster, and a member of the Inner Circle. He is the son of an Illyrian lord but spends much of his childhood imprisoned in his father’s keep. His half-brothers burn his hands, leaving permanent scars.

Azriel is eventually allowed to train in an Illyrian camp. There, he meets Rhys and Cassian. The three begin as rivals but develop a brother-like bond that continues into adulthood.

Azriel’s Powers and Abilities

Azriel is a shadowsinger. Living shadows gather around him, communicate with him, and help him uncover secrets. His abilities include:

• Shadowsinging
• Intelligence gathering
• Stealth
• Flight
• Illyrian combat
• Winnowing
• Torture and interrogation
• Siphon-based attacks

Azriel uses seven blue Siphons to control his power. He also carries Truth-Teller, an ancient black knife with a much longer history than the Inner Circle initially understands. His shadows make him exceptionally difficult to surprise. However, some people and places can prevent them from giving him complete information.

Azriel and Morrigan

Azriel has loved Mor for centuries. Mor cares deeply for him but does not return his romantic feelings. She avoids directly confronting the situation, leaving both characters trapped in a relationship neither fully resolves.

Azriel, Elain, and Gwyn

Azriel develops an attraction to Elain after she begins living in the Night Court. Their connection creates political problems because Elain already has a mate. Rhys orders Azriel to stay away from her.

Azriel also spends time training Gwyn at the House of Wind. His bonus chapter ends with him giving Gwyn the necklace he originally intended for Elain, although he asks the shopkeeper not to reveal that it came from him.

Neither relationship has reached a clear resolution.

Who Is Lucien Vanserra?

Lucien Vanserra is a former emissary of the Spring Court and one of the first Fae Feyre meets in Prythian. He is raised as the youngest son of Beron Vanserra and the Lady of the Autumn Court. However, Feyre later discovers that Helion, the High Lord of the Day Court, is Lucien’s biological father.

Lucien escapes the Autumn Court after Beron executes his lover, Jesminda. Tamlin gives him refuge in the Spring Court, and Lucien becomes his closest friend and emissary.

Lucien’s Powers and Abilities

Lucien possesses fire magic associated with the Autumn Court. His abilities and skills include:

• Fire manipulation
• High Fae strength and senses
• Winnowing
• Court diplomacy
• Political negotiation
• Tracking
• Sword fighting

Amarantha tears out one of Lucien’s eyes. He later receives an enchanted mechanical eye created by Nuan of the Dawn Court. The eye can detect spells, glamours, and magical details that ordinary sight cannot perceive.

Lucien’s connection to Helion suggests that he may possess additional Day Court power, but the published books have not fully explored this part of his magic.

Lucien and Elain

Lucien identifies Elain as his mate after she emerges from the Cauldron. He tries to give her space, but he also struggles with her refusal to engage with the bond. Elain accepts some of his gifts but has not accepted him as her mate. Their future remains unresolved.

Lucien and the Band of Exiles

Lucien leaves the Spring Court and begins working as an emissary for the Night Court. He later spends much of his time in the human lands with Vassa and Jurian. Lucien jokingly calls their household the Band of Exiles. The three characters connect several major storylines: the human territories, the mortal queens, Koschei, Beron, and the unfinished relationship between Lucien and Elain.

Who Is Tamlin?

Tamlin is the High Lord of the Spring Court and one of the central characters in the first ACOTAR book. He is the youngest son of the former High Lord of the Spring Court. Tamlin never expected to inherit the title, but the deaths of his father and brothers leave him in control of the court.

Amarantha later curses Tamlin and his people. To break the curse, a human woman must kill a Fae and then fall in love with Tamlin despite knowing what he is. Tamlin sends his sentries across the Wall in animal form. Feyre eventually kills Andras, allowing Tamlin to bring her to the Spring Court.

Tamlin’s Powers and Abilities

Tamlin’s magic is strongly connected to shapeshifting. His abilities include:

• Shapeshifting
• Transforming other people
• Wind manipulation
• High Lord magic
• Enhanced strength
• Healing
• Beast transformation
• Glamours

Tamlin can transform into a large horned beast. He can also force transformations upon others, including his sentries.

Tamlin and Feyre

Tamlin and Feyre fall in love during her time in the Spring Court. Feyre later risks her life to save him Under the Mountain. After they return, Tamlin becomes increasingly controlling. He ignores Feyre’s trauma, limits her movements, and eventually traps her inside his estate. Feyre leaves with Mor and begins living in the Night Court.

Tamlin later makes an agreement with Hybern to recover Feyre. Although this decision allows Hybern’s forces to enter the Spring Court, Tamlin secretly gathers information and passes it to the other High Lords. He also helps Feyre escape from Hybern’s camp and gives Rhys a fragment of power when the High Lords bring him back to life.

Who Is Morrigan?

Morrigan, usually called Mor, is Rhysand’s cousin and the third-in-command of the Night Court. She was born into the ruling family of the Court of Nightmares. Her father, Keir, intended to use her marriage to strengthen the family’s political position.

Mor was engaged to Eris Vanserra, the heir to the Autumn Court. She slept with Cassian to make herself unacceptable as Eris’s future wife. Her family punished her brutally and abandoned her at the border of the Autumn Court. Eris found her but refused to touch or claim her, allowing the Night Court to retrieve her.

Morrigan’s Powers and Abilities

Mor’s power is described as truth, but the books have not fully explained what this means. Her known abilities include:

• Winnowing
• High Fae magic
• Exceptional combat skill
• Political negotiation
• Truth-related power

Mor fought in the war against Hybern five hundred years before Feyre entered Prythian. She remains one of the Night Court’s most experienced fighters and diplomats.

Mor and Azriel

Azriel has loved Mor for centuries. Mor does not return his feelings but avoids clearly rejecting him. She later tells Feyre that she prefers women and fears how her family and the Court of Nightmares would respond.

Mor once loved a human queen named Andromache. By the time Mor returned to her, Andromache had married and started a family.

Who Is Amren?

Amren is an ancient being who entered the ACOTAR world through a rift between worlds. She is not originally Fae. After becoming trapped in Prythian, she chooses a High Fae body and remains inside it for thousands of years.

Amren eventually joins Rhysand’s Inner Circle and becomes his second-in-command. Her knowledge of ancient languages and magic makes her essential whenever the Night Court encounters an unfamiliar spell, object, or creature.

During the final battle, Amren appears to betray Feyre by placing her hand on the Cauldron. Instead, she uses the Cauldron to release herself from her High Fae body. She returns to her original form and destroys much of Hybern’s army. Amren gives up her existence to complete the attack. Rhys later finds her inside the Cauldron and helps bring her back. She returns as High Fae without her original destructive power.

Amren’s Powers and Abilities

Before returning as High Fae, Amren possesses immense otherworldly power. Her abilities include:

• Ancient magic
• Immense destructive power
• Supernatural speed and strength
• Knowledge of old languages
• Spell interpretation
• Magical research

Amren survives on blood rather than ordinary food. She also stores jewels and valuables throughout her apartment in Velaris. She deciphers the Book of Breathings and helps Feyre use it to neutralize the Cauldron.

Amren and Varian

Amren develops a relationship with Varian, a prince of the Summer Court. Their relationship connects the Night and Summer Courts after Feyre and Rhys damage that alliance by stealing the Book of Breathings from Tarquin. Amren remains in Velaris as an adviser to Feyre and Rhys. She also pushes Rhys to consider becoming High King, although he rejects the idea.
