Biography
Vander Evren is a powerful immortal heir and the head of one of Starside’s Great Houses. His reputation alone is enough to frighten other immortals, and he is widely regarded as one of the strongest heirs of his generation.
Around fifty years before the events of Starside, Vander meets Stellan during the previous Questral. Stellan saves his life and later gives the magic he earns to Vander and his people instead of taking it back to Stormside. The two become friends, and Vander never forgets the debt he owes him.
During the current Questral, Aris summons Vander after Stellan tells her to find him. Vander brings her to his estate and agrees to help largely because of his friendship with Stellan. He is initially suspicious of Raker and keeps him confined to the stables while Aris stays in the castle.
Vander later helps Aris to understand more about Starside, including the Great Houses, ancient swords, oaths and political alliances between immortal families. He encourages her to use an upcoming ball to secure the support of other heirs, and helps her plan her journey to the Land of the Gods.
Although Vander presents himself as arrogant, intimidating, and difficult to read, he gradually becomes one of Aris’s most important allies in Starside. His hatred of the gods also gives him a personal reason to support her quest for revenge.
Physical Description
Vander Evren is a tall, imposing immortal with silver hair and a striking, almost otherworldly appearance. Aris describes him as one of the most beautiful men she has ever seen. His pale features and powerful presence make him immediately intimidating, and he often wears intricately detailed silver armor that matches his hair.
Personality
Vander Evren is proud, intimidating, and highly self-assured. He is used to power and authority, and he expects others to follow his lead without much explanation.
He can be blunt, impatient, and difficult to read, but he is not without compassion. Vander remains deeply loyal to Stellan’s memory and helps Aris because of the debt he owes him. He also shows a more thoughtful side as he begins advising Aris, teaching her about Starside, and helping her navigate its politics.
Abilities
Vander Evren is an extremely powerful immortal warrior and one of the strongest heirs in Starside. He is highly skilled with his godsword and can use it to summon, portal, and manipulate magic in ways most mortals cannot.
His sword can also change form, becoming different weapons such as daggers, throwing stars, or a scythe. Vander can create living maps through the blade and use it to move across great distances. As a bloodbane, he also possesses enhanced immortal strength, speed, and senses, making him dangerous even without his sword.
