Biography
Raker was born mortal and grew up in a poor family in Stormside, where his father worked as a fisherman and his mother as a seamstress. He later rose through the king’s guard and eventually became the God of Death. During the previous Questral, around fifty years before the events of Starside, he hid a shard of his soul in Stormside after suspecting that the other gods were plotting against him. Five years before the current Questral, the God of War attempted to kill him. Because part of Raker’s soul remained in Stormside, he survived and awoke there as a human once more.
Physical Description
Harlan Raker is a towering, broad-shouldered man with dark hair, pale skin, gray eyes, and a muscular build. Thin, dark tattoos thread across his skin, covering his hands and knuckles and continuing down his arms and fingers. He has sharp features and an imposing presence, often concealed beneath a black hood, silver mask, and unmarrred silver armor. Raker also carries a rare sword made entirely from Starside steel, an ancient weapon that chose him as its wielder.
Personality
Harlan Raker is controlled, ruthless, and highly disciplined. He rarely shows emotion and keeps most people at a distance, which only adds to his intimidating reputation.
Raker is also fiercely protective of the people he cares about. He is willing to make difficult and often brutal choices if he believes they are necessary for survival. Beneath his cold exterior, he carries grief and guilt that he rarely allows others to see.
Abilities
Harlan Raker is an exceptionally skilled fighter, even while mortal. He can defeat immortals and dangerous creatures with relative ease and has a reputation as one of the most formidable warriors in Stormside. His skill with a sword allows him to rise through the king’s guard, and he is chosen by an ancient Starside steel blade, a rare weapon that selects its own wielder.
As the former God of Death, Raker also possesses divine power. After losing that power and returning to Stormside as a human, he enters the Questral to regain it. Once he drinks from the cup of magic, he becomes a god again and restores his supernatural abilities.
Relationships
| Aris Agron | Raker and Aris Agron initially share a hostile relationship built on mistrust and resentment. Years before the Questral, Raker catches Aris trespassing in a military training area and turns her over to the guards. Their punishment leaves permanent scars across her back, and Aris blames Raker for what happened.During the Questral, they form a reluctant partnership. Aris provides a map of Starside, while Raker uses his strength and combat skills to protect them during the journey. Over time, they begin sharing secrets, protecting one another, and lowering the defenses they usually keep in place. Their growing trust develops into attraction and intimacy.Their relationship changes again when Raker steals Aris’s sword and betrays her. Aris later retaliates by stealing his sword after learning his true identity. Despite their betrayals, the feelings they develop for one another remain genuine and complicate the conflict between their individual goals. |
