Biography
Cadoc Bolter is the heir to House Bolter, one of the five remaining Great Houses on Stormside. His family controls much of the fertile land that remains, making the Bolters an important source of food for thousands of people. Cadoc enters the Questral with the advantages of his house behind him, including guards, supplies, and valuable weapons.
He first clashes with Aris Agron before the Questral begins and quickly becomes one of her main rivals. During the Culling, Cadoc relies heavily on the protection and resources of House Bolter. Although he is not initially as skilled with a sword as Aris, he continues to collect stronger weapons and allies as the journey progresses.
Cadoc is also responsible for Stellan’s death and later carries the rare dagger Stellan brought back from Starside. His conflict with Aris becomes increasingly personal after she discovers what happened.
During the Questral, Cadoc gathers a group of challengers around him and claims a powerful dragon capable of breathing fire. He uses both his followers and his creature to hunt other competitors, including Aris and Kira. Cadoc eventually captures Kira, tortures and kills her, and later uses her sword against Aris during their confrontation.
Aris and Cadoc fight again above the City on Fire, where his dragon gives him a major advantage. Cadoc continues toward the end of the Questral and reaches the well of magic before Aris. He drinks from a cup of magic and survives, leaving Starside alive on his dragon and gaining the immortality he sought.
Physical Description
Cadoc is usually seen wearing gold armor and carrying valuable weapons. Later in the Questral, he has a jagged scar along the side of his throat.
Personality
Cadoc is arrogant, cruel, and highly competitive. He relies on status, wealth, and intimidation, and he treats the Questral as a contest he expects to dominate.
He is also ruthless and vindictive. Cadoc targets people who challenge or embarrass him, uses others to strengthen his position, and shows little hesitation about hurting or killing competitors. His behavior toward Aris and Kira also shows that he enjoys using fear and personal weaknesses against others.
Abilities
Cadoc is a capable fighter, though Aris initially considers herself more skilled with a sword. During the Questral, he improves and becomes more dangerous as he collects stronger weapons.
He also claims a powerful fire-breathing dragon, which gives him a major advantage in combat and allows him to travel quickly across Starside. Near the end of the Questral, Cadoc drinks from a cup of magic and survives, gaining immortality.
