Biography
Starside
Aris Agron bonds with a silver female dragon during the Questral in Starside. The dragon saves Aris and allows her to approach despite being powerful enough to kill her easily. When Aris places her hand against the dragon, a spark runs through her body and a star-shaped light appears on the dragon’s forehead before fading into a glimmering scar. Aris recognizes the sensation as a connection similar to the bond she feels with her sword.
The dragon becomes Aris’s guide and means of transportation through Starside. She carries Aris across large distances and appears to know the land instinctively, allowing Aris to continue without relying on a map. Aris gradually learns to trust her and begins to see the dragon as someone she can depend on rather than simply a creature carrying her through the Questral.
During their journey, the dragon leads Aris to a mountain filled with rubies. She breaks open the rock with her tail and eats the gemstones, crushing them between her teeth. Aris realizes that gemstones form at least part of the dragon’s diet, although she does not learn whether this is true of all dragons.
The dragon later carries Aris toward the Land of the Gods. She flies through the storm surrounding the final part of the Questral and helps Aris reach the entrance. Near the end of the journey, Aris realizes that their connection allows the dragon to communicate with her through feelings that form into words in her mind.
Aris never learns the dragon’s name. Before entering the final archway alone, she asks the dragon to remain outside and thanks her for saving and helping her throughout the journey.
The dragon later intervenes in Aris’s confrontation with the God of Travel and eats the god.
Physical Description
Aris’s dragon is silver, a trait Aris immediately connects to her own silver markings. Her head is larger than Aris’s entire body, while her body is larger than a house. Despite her size, Aris notes that she is not one of the largest dragons in Starside, having seen larger dragons above the Beast Tree.
Her wings have silk-like silver webbing that is visibly shredded. A star-shaped glimmering scar appears on her forehead when her connection with Aris forms.
Abilities
Aris’s dragon can fly while carrying Aris across large distances and navigate Starside without a map. She also possesses considerable physical strength and uses her tail to break apart solid rock and expose gemstones hidden inside.
Her bond with Aris allows a form of communication that goes beyond spoken language. Near the end of the Questral, Aris experiences the dragon’s response as a feeling transformed into words inside her mind. The full nature of their connection is not completely explained.
The dragon is also capable of attacking divine beings and later eats the God of Travel.
Relationship with Aris Agron
The dragon becomes one of Aris Agron’s most important companions during the Questral. Aris initially understands that trusting such a powerful creature could easily get her killed, but the dragon repeatedly protects and guides her. Their relationship gives Aris someone other than herself to depend on during the journey.
Their connection is both magical and emotional. Aris feels a bond similar to the one she shares with her sword, while the dragon later appears able to communicate directly with her. Before entering the Land of the Gods, Aris tells the dragon that knowing her has been one of the greatest gifts of her journey.
