Biography
King Courtlyn IV is the ruler of the Isle Kingdom of Deverelli, a realm known for its neutrality, commerce, and influence. His ancestors resumed trade and political brokering with Navarre within the past century, restoring Deverelli’s position as a key player among the Isles. He keeps three pure-white panthers—Shira, Shena, and Shora—raised since cubs in his palace, both as symbols of prestige and as ferocious guardians.
In Onyx Storm, he becomes deeply involved in the events surrounding the Amelian Citrine. When Halden Tauri’s guard tries to steal his treasures, Courtlyn demands ransom. He eventually captures Halden and imposes strict terms for his release. During a tense negotiation, Courtlyn stabs Halden through the hand and later serves the head of Halden’s guard to his panther in a gruesome display. Violet Sorrengail, acting as Xaden’s consort, helps broker a deal: Courtlyn receives the citrine, Andarna’s dragon egg shell, and assurances that Halden never returns to Deverelli. In return, he offers to use Deverelli as a starting point to travel to the other isle kingdoms, as well as dragon and gryphon hunting rights on Deverelli.
Physical Description
King Courtlyn is described as handsome, with deep golden-brown skin and sharp features. He has high cheekbones, a strong jaw, and brown eyes that are said to be cunning. His shoulder-length black hair frames a face that doesn’t look much older than Xaden’s.
