Location
Resson lies at the base of the Esben Mountains, a short flight from the Navarrian outpost of Athebyne. The town is ringed by stone and wooden gates, with dirt roads connecting its modest homes, shops, and market stalls. Surrounded by thick forests and steep ridges, it embodies the precarious life of a border community, reliant on trade yet vulnerable to raids and shifting allegiances.
Culture
Resson represents centuries of contested ground between Navarre and Poromiel. It has endured conquest, occupation, and rebuilding countless times, becoming both a symbol of resilience and the futility of border wars. Its destruction in Fourth Wing underscores how civilians are caught between the ambitions of kingdoms and the growing threat of the venin.
Relevance
In Fourth Wing, Resson becomes the site of the pivotal Battle of Resson. Venin and wyvern attacked the settlement on July 2, 634 AU, forcing dragon riders and gryphon fliers to defend both the town and its 300 civilians. The townspeople sheltered in the mines while the allied forces fought to drive the enemy back. Though the venin were defeated, Resson was partially drained and left in ruins, marking one of the earliest moments when riders and fliers fought side by side against a common enemy.
By Iron Flame, official records at Basgiath claim the post was destroyed by Poromiel unrest rather than venin, erasing the truth of the battle. Violet Sorrengail, however, recognizes the cover-up, noting that Navarre later declared the area unfit for trade, forcing relocation of the long-standing agreement.
