Location
Poromiel stretches between the Barrens and Navarre, consisting of sweeping arid grasslands, fertile plains, and marshlands. Its natural wealth includes vast grain fields, distinctive textiles, and crystalline gems capable of amplifying minor magics, which serve as both cultural markers and valuable trade resources.
Culture
Poromiel is one of the two major kingdoms of the Known World and Navarre’s longtime adversary. Known for its gryphon riders and provincial diversity, Poromiel has been at war with Navarre for over four centuries, with conflicts rooted in territory, resources, and border clashes at the Cliffs of Dralor and the Esben Mountains. Despite its unity as a kingdom, Poromiel preserves strong provincial identities, with citizens often identifying as Krovlan, Braevick, or Cygni before Poromish.
Relevance
The kingdom’s history with Navarre is marked by recurring battles and temporary peace through the Trade Agreement of Resson, signed in the fourth century, which ensured regular exchange of goods between the two powers. Even so, the border has remained volatile, with trading posts like Resson changing hands more than a dozen times.
In Onyx Storm, Poromiel plays a crucial part in the continent’s fight against the Venin. Queen Maraya seeks more than just alliances—she wants the gryphon fliers permitted to train and study at Basgiath War College as part of her negotiations with Navarre and Violet Sorrengail’s quest squad. When Venin attack Suniva leads to Maraya’s death, the crown passes to King Tecarus of Cordyn, who rises from Viscount to monarch. With cities like Zolya and Pavis fallen and Draithus under threat, Poromiel becomes a frontline in the war. Tecarus’s leadership at this moment becomes decisive, shaping the kingdom’s role in the brewing conflict and its hope for survival.
