Location

Morraine borders Luceras to the west, Deaconshire to the south, and Elsum to the southeast. To the north lies the Emerald Sea, while the Esben Mountains form the natural eastern boundary against Poromiel’s province of Cygnisen. The Iakobos River runs vertically through the province, passing beneath Basgiath War College.

The province is home to several key locations, including Basgiath, which stands beside The Vale, the sacred hatching grounds of dragonkind. The nearby village of Chantara supplies the college and serves as a resting post for students of the Healer, Scribe, and Infantry Quadrants—though Rider cadets have been banned for nearly a decade following a pub fire started in a brawl.

Along the Cygnisen border lies the fortified outpost of Montserrat, where Mira Sorrengail was stationed. Close to Montserrat is Rhiannon Matthias’s home village, known for training children in combat from an early age. Farther up the Esben Mountains, the village of Sipene lies an hour’s flight from Montserrat, one of the few settlements beyond Navarre’s protective wards.

Culture

Life near the Cygni frontier can be militarized; for example, Rhiannon Matthias’s village trains children to fight from a young age. Before Unification, the province had its own logosyllabic language, Morrainian; after Unification it became a dead language, and Jesinia Neilwart is the only known character who can read it.

Relevance

Morraine is a Navarrian province on the northeastern border, best known as the home of Basgiath War College, the kingdom’s elite military academy where riders, healers, and scribes are trained. Its proximity to the Vale, the dragons’ hatching grounds, makes it one of the most strategically vital regions in Navarre, serving as the heart of rider education and dragon bonding.

Notable Locations

Basgiath War College Navarre’s premier military academy, training cadets across the Riders, Healers, Scribes, and Infantry quadrants. Situated along the Iakobos River and adjacent to The Vale, it is the most significant site in Navarre for shaping future leaders and warriors.
Chantara A nearby village that supplies Basgiath with resources and functions as a place of worship. While open to second-years from most quadrants, Riders have been banned for nearly a decade after a violent brawl led to the destruction of a local pub.
Iakobos River A fast, dangerous river that runs beneath Basgiath. Its banks are lined with ancient oaks and fonilee berry vines, and its currents surge dangerously during summer melt.
Montserrat An outpost along the Cygni border where Mira Sorrengail was stationed. It lies near villages like Rhiannon Matthias’ and the high-altitude settlement of Sipene.
Pelham Another military outpost along the Cygni border, part of Navarre’s eastern defenses.
Sipene A mountain village lying beyond Navarre’s wards at 8,000 feet of elevation. Located an hour’s flight from Montserrat, it has nearby caves and exists on the edge of Poromish-controlled lands.
The Vale The sacred hatching ground of dragons and the most revered site in Navarre, directly adjacent to Basgiath.
