The Barrens

The Barrens lie at the far southeastern edge of the Continent, bordered by Braevick Province and marked by the Dunness River. Now a desert wasteland of cracked earth and dry rock, it was once a contested territory where gryphons and dragons fought side by side at Gianfar. Today, the region has no living culture or settlements. Its only “residents” are venin, who still haunt the ruins and use the desolated land as a source of power.

The Barrens are one of the most infamous regions of the Continent. Once fertile, the land was drained of all magic during the Great War when venin, led by General Daramor, drew directly from the source. This act left the peninsula desolate and uninhabitable, abandoned by humans, dragons, and gryphons alike. The Barrens remain synonymous with ruin and corruption, the birthplace of the venin threat that still endangers the Continent.

Gianfar	An ancient fortress along the southern border of the Barrens, and the site of the pivotal Battle of Gianfar during the Great War. The stronghold was built for siege and introduced the first cross-bolt, a weapon deadly even to dragons.
