Location

Hedotis, also known as the Isle of Wisdom or the Isle of Hedeon, is located a thirteen hour flight from Unnbriel. It is described as a beautiful island with a slightly colder climate compared to the other isles further east. The capital city is Vidirys. The vegetation on the island is even paler than on the other isles, with pale, barely green seagrass and bramble bushes.

Culture

In Hedotis knowledge and peace are highly valued. The island has no army and its focus is on providing great libraries and colleges as centers for education. Many Hedotis’ residents have purple eyes. This is due to the mineral viladrite, which turns paler eye colors purple. The residents wear pastel-colored tunics and gowns, often in one-shoulder fashion. Tunics with intricate metallic embroidery indicate wealth.

The Triumvirate is the ruling body of the island consisting of three members, chosen by election. To meet with the Triumvirate, one must undergo a trial to prove wisdom.

Worship

The isle honors Hedeon, the god of wisdom. Daily rituals often include a short meal prayer followed by a private confession of daily missteps in a meditative act of devotion.

Relevance

Hedotis is vital in Onyx Storm as one of the Isles where Violet’s quest squad seeks support and answers. As they arrive, they meet Faris, a member of the Hedotic Triumvirate, and discover that Xaden’s mother, Talia, now lives there. The Triumvirate demands proof of the squad’s wisdom (through tests and dinner trials), probing the nature of dragons, alliances, and trust. Hedotis also becomes the setting for a betrayal attempt via poisoned cake, which Violet anticipates and counters.

A thick wooden walkway connects the beach to the city’s bustling market. Within its walls, neighborhoods are meticulously proportioned, each centered around communal spaces for markets and gatherings. Rows of merchants line the coast, backed by three-story buildings of uniform color and design, their evenly spaced windows softened by muted flower baskets, creating an atmosphere of harmony and order that reflects Hedotis’ devotion to wisdom and balance.
