Elsum

Elsum lies east of Deaconshire and Morraine, southwest of Tyrrendor, and directly across from Krovla, Braevick, and Cygnisen. Its rugged geography is dominated by the Esben Mountains, which provide both a natural defense and a constant challenge for the settlements nestled within them. High-altitude villages like Chakir and Sumerton endure harsh conditions but also enjoy protection from most gryphon attacks, as gryphons struggle with altitude compared to dragons.

Elsum’s identity is tied to its position on Navarre’s eastern border. Its villages and outposts are accustomed to raids and skirmishes, making military presence central to daily life. Unlike provinces further inland, Elsum’s communities live with the constant pressure of defending Navarre’s frontiers.

Elsum is Navarre’s easternmost province, strategically significant as it borders all three provinces of Poromiel across the Esben and Tage Mountains. Its position makes it a frontline region in the long-standing conflict between Navarre and Poromiel, hosting key military outposts and vulnerable border villages. Elsum frequently bears the brunt of cross-border raids and gryphon incursions, making it vital to Navarre’s defense.

Chakir	A mountain village near the Braevick border, situated just under 10,000 feet in elevation. Its altitude makes gryphon incursions rare, but when the wards faltered, a Braevi drift attacked, killing thirty-seven civilians before Eastern Wing riders repelled them. The illogical choice of Chakir as a target raised suspicions of foreknowledge about the ward failure.
Keldavi	A fortified outpost along the Braevick border, part of the defensive network that secures Elsum against Poromish aggression.
Sumerton	A high-altitude village on the southern border with Krovla, located in the Esben Mountains. Sumerton was attacked despite the Treaty of Arif, which allows dragons and gryphons to share a narrow strip of airspace between the village and Draithus. The attack, which looted supply convoys and storage caves, heightened tensions and underscored the fragility of the treaty.
Samara	Elsum’s largest military outpost, located on the eastern border with Krovla and Braevick. It serves as a major defensive stronghold against Poromish incursions and features prominently in Navarre’s frontier defense.
