Location

Braevick lies at the heart of Poromiel, bordered by Krovla to the south, Cygnisen to the north, the Barrens to the east, and Elsum to the west. The province’s geography is dominated by arid grasslands, marshlands, and the Esben Mountains on its western edge. Two major rivers flow through the region: the Dunness River along the eastern border and the Stonewater River, which runs from the Esben Mountains to the Bay of Malek. The land bears scars of Venin activity, with drained stones scattered across its terrain.

Culture

Before the fall, Braevick was considered the heart of Poromiel’s gryphon culture, housing the prestigious Cliffsbane Flight Academy. After the academy’s destruction, its legacy—and the survival of Poromiel’s fliers—became tied to alliances beyond the province.

Relevance

Braevick is the central province of Poromiel and one of the regions most heavily scarred by the Venin war. Due to its long border with the Barrens, it becomes the frontline of repeated assaults, with cities such as Zolya and Anca falling to Venin forces in 634 AU. These losses devastate Poromiel’s defenses, forcing gryphon cadets to flee the destroyed Cliffsbane Flight Academy and seek shelter first in Cordyn and later in Aretia.
In Onyx Storm, Braevick’s collapse shapes the wider conflict, as the fall of Suniva—home to Queen Maraya’s seat of power—results in her death and the ascension of Tecarus to the Poromish throne. This marks a pivotal turning point, both for Poromiel’s leadership and for the continent’s united struggle against the Venin.

Notable Locations

Zolya The second-most populous city in Braevick, located at the foot of the Esben Mountains along the Stonewater River. Once a thriving hub and home to the Cliffsbane Flight Academy, Zolya fell to Venin attacks in 634 AU. The city was later repurposed as a Venin training base for their initiates.
Cliffsbane Flight Academy Poromiel’s premier gryphon flier training institute, situated within Zolya. After Zolya’s destruction, the academy was occupied by Venin. Surviving cadets were evacuated first to Cordyn and eventually relocated to Aretia, where they trained alongside dragon riders under the Revolution.
Anca A smaller town near Zolya, also overtaken by Venin after Zolya’s fall. Anca is remembered for being the home of Amelia, a member of the first gryphon drift. The town was later accidentally destroyed by Aura Beinhaven.
Suniva Located in northern Braevick, Suniva served as the seat of Queen Maraya’s rule. It was here that Maraya and her nobles sought to negotiate alliances with Navarre. However, Venin forces eventually stormed the city, killing Maraya and ending her reign.
