Location
Cordyn is the largest city in southern Krovla and one of Poromiel’s most influential centers of power. Situated along the coast, it is both a seat of wealth and a hub of politics. The city is about a two-day flight from Basgiath and twelve hours from Aretia by dragon. The seawater along its beaches shifts between turquoise and aqua, and the city experiences a hot coastal climate. Cordyn’s architecture emphasizes luxury and beauty rather than defense, reflecting its mercantile and cultural identity rather than militaristic priorities.
Culture
Cordyn also serves as a cultural center, attracting singers, storytellers, and artisans through Tecarus’ famously irresistible offers. Despite Poromiel’s ongoing war and Venin incursions, the city was spared occupation, making it one of the few remaining strongholds of Poromish resistance. Following Queen Maraya’s death in Onyx Storm, Tecarus ascends to the Poromish throne, turning Cordyn from a provincial capital into the seat of a kingdom at a pivotal moment in history.
Relevance
Cordyn’s ruler, Viscount Tecarus, became a decisive figure during the events of the Tyrrish Rebellion and later in the continent’s struggle against the Venin. Initially courted by Fen Riorson as an ally, Tecarus rejected the proposed betrothal between his niece, Catriona Cordella, and Xaden Riorson. Years later, however, Cordyn became central to alliance-building efforts. After Violet Sorrengail demonstrated her lightning-wielding power in Tecarus’ gaming arena, the viscount struck a new bargain—trading his luminary in exchange for weapons and the relocation of gryphon fliers displaced after the fall of Zolya and Cliffsbane Flight Academy.
Notable Locations
| Palace | Perched on the farthest eastern peak above the city, Tecarus’ palace is sprawling and opulent, but militarily indefensible. Built of white marble, with five cascading terraces of bright blue pools reflecting the sun, it seems to glow against the coastal hills. The grounds include ornate gardens and a butterfly garden, while guards wear crimson uniforms. Its design prioritizes luxury and display over fortification, standing in contrast to Navarrian strongholds. |

| Gaming Arena | Constructed from quarried Braevick stone drained of magic, Cordyn’s arena is carved into the hillside near the palace. It is both an entertainment venue and a stage for power, famously hosting the match where Violet revealed her lightning signet to Tecarus, a moment that altered the course of negotiations. |
