Location

Krovla is the southernmost province of Poromiel, long defined by its position on the border with Navarre and its role in centuries of conflict across the Esben Mountains and the Cliffs of Dralor. Its strategic importance has made it a focal point of rebellions, treaties, and shifting alliances, from the Treaty of Arif, which permitted shared airspace over the mountains, to the Second Krovlan Uprising, a rebellion entwined with rumors of foreign aid and betrayal.

Culture

Krovla embodies Poromiel’s martial traditions through its strong gryphon-flying heritage. Its ruling families, especially House Cordella, carry deep ties to both Poromiel’s politics and its military legacy. The province also reflects Poromiel’s provincial identity, with its people identifying as Krovlan first, Poromish second.

Krovla’s history is marked by betrayals and alliances: the failed Second Uprising, Fen Riorson’s pact with Tecarus during the Tyrrish Rebellion, and later the relocation of gryphon fliers through the perilous Medaro Pass into Aretia.

Relevance

The province’s ruling seat in Cordyn rose to even greater prominence when Viscount Tecarus ascended the Poromish throne following Queen Maraya’s death in Onyx Storm. This change placed Krovla not only at the heart of Poromiel’s leadership but also in direct alignment with the Revolution and Violet Sorrengail’s squad as the war against the Venin expanded.

Notable Locations

Cordyn A seaside city on the southern coast and former seat of Viscount Tecarus, now the capital under his kingship. Cordyn’s strategic position and political weight have made it central to both Poromiel’s leadership and its dealings with Navarre.
Resson A fortified trading post in the valley below Athebyne, tied to the centuries-old Trade Agreement of Resson. It became the site of the Battle of Resson in Fourth Wing, where riders and fliers united to defend civilians against venin and wyvern. The village has since been destroyed and abandoned.
Draithus Krovla’s second most populous city and its last stronghold before the Cliffs of Dralor. A key defensive city on the Navarrian border, Draithus later became a battleground in the Venin invasion.
Pavis A smaller town east of Draithus. It was overtaken by venin and wyvern in Onyx Storm, forcing a retreat after heavy losses, including the death of Nyra Voldaren and her dragon, Malla.
Soudra A port near Draithus, essential for southern trade.
Cliffs of Dralor & Medaro Pass The Cliffs of Dralor rise over 12,000 feet, creating a natural border with Navarre. Along Krovla’s stretch lies the Medaro Pass, a treacherous trail carved into the granite cliffs. Laden with traps, rockslides, and deadly ledges, it is the only known crossing point in this region. In Onyx Storm, it served as the dangerous route by which gryphon fliers and dragons traveled together into Aretia, forging a fragile trust between the two groups.
