Biography
Aotrom is a brown swordtail dragon in Rebecca Yarros’s Empyrean series, bonded to Ridoc Gamlyn. He first appears in Fourth Wing, where he chooses Ridoc as his rider during Threshing in 633 AU.
In Iron Flame, Aotrom shares Violet’s vision with Ridoc and later fights alongside their squad during the Battle of Basgiath, where he is injured but survives.
By Onyx Storm, Aotrom and Ridoc’s relationship is marked by constant bickering and pranks, including a notorious moment when Ridoc poured itching powder between Aotrom’s scales, forcing the dragon to submerge himself in the river. Despite their playful conflicts, Aotrom proves his loyalty, joining the quest squad to the Isle Kingdoms and later fighting in the Battle of Draithus, where he helps protect civilians fleeing through the Medaro Pass.
