Biography
Quinn Hollis was a dragon rider in the Riders Quadrant at Basgiath War College. She was part of the same generation of cadets as Violet Sorrengail, Rhiannon Matthias, Ridoc Gamlyn, Sawyer Henrick, Imogen Cardulo, and other riders who trained through some of the most dangerous years at Basgiath.
Although Quinn was not marked, she became close with Imogen Cardulo and the marked ones early on. She was already friendly with Imogen by the time Violet entered the Riders Quadrant, and her willingness to stay connected to them shows that her loyalty was not limited by Basgiath’s political divisions.
Quinn bonded the orange daggertail dragon Cruth and manifested the rare signet of astral projection. Her ability allowed her to project her image outside of her physical body, making her especially useful in situations that required misdirection, scouting, or distraction.
During the Squad Battle in Fourth Wing, Quinn used her astral projection to lure guards away and help her squad steal maps from General Sorrengail’s office. The moment showed how powerful her signet could be when used strategically, especially in missions where direct force was not the only option.
Quinn survived her earlier years in the Riders Quadrant and later fought in the War Games. She also stood with the marked ones and supported the Revolution after the truth about venin and wyvern began to unravel the official history taught at Basgiath.
In Onyx Storm, Quinn continued to fight alongside the others during the growing conflict. She was killed during the battle of Draithus after being stabbed, making her death one of the losses suffered by the riders and their allies during the war.

Personality
Quinn Hollis is shown as blunt, dryly funny, and practical about the brutal reality of the Riders Quadrant. Early in Fourth Wing, she casually points out that there is little use getting to know new cadets when so many of them die, a comment that captures both her dark humor and the survival mindset many older cadets develop at Basgiath.
Despite that sharp first impression, Quinn is not cold. She becomes close with Imogen Cardulo early on, and their friendship remains one of her most important personal connections throughout the series. Their bond is especially notable because Quinn is not one of the marked ones herself, yet she still befriends and stands with them.
Quinn’s loyalty becomes clearer as the story progresses. She supports the marked ones, helps her squad during high-risk missions, and later joins the wider fight against venin, wyvern, and the lies surrounding Navarre’s official history. Her personality combines sarcasm and realism with a strong sense of loyalty once she decides someone is worth trusting.
Powers
Lesser Magic
Through her bond with Cruth, Quinn was capable of performing lesser magic. This included locking and unlocking doors without touching them, moving with preternatural speed, manipulating mage lights, powering ink pens, and placing runes.
Like other bonded riders, Quinn’s access to lesser magic came through her dragon bond. While lesser magic was common among riders, Quinn’s specific signet made her especially valuable in situations that required stealth, misdirection, and coordination.
Signet
Astral Projection: Quinn could project her image outside of her body, allowing her to walk elsewhere while her physical form remained in place. She could also project images of other people and even distort her own appearance, though she admitted the latter was easier when moving within the astral plane.
Her signet made her useful in missions where deception mattered more than direct combat. During the Squad Battle, Quinn used astral projection to draw guards away, helping create the opening her squad needed to steal the maps from General Sorrengail’s office.
Abilities
Languages
Quinn was fluent in sign language, a skill she used frequently with her closest companions.
This ability made her communication with the people around her more flexible, especially in a military environment where silence, speed, and trust could matter as much as spoken words.
Relationships
| Imogen Cardulo | Imogen and Quinn were close friends and squadmates who trusted each other deeply. Quinn was already close with Imogen early in Fourth Wing, and their bond continued throughout the series. Imogen often confided in Quinn and stayed by her side during her final moments, refusing to leave her. Their friendship is especially meaningful because Quinn was not marked herself, yet she still befriended and stood with Imogen and the marked ones. |
|---|---|
| Jax | Quinn was in a relationship with Jax, her girlfriend, beginning at least in her second year in the Riders Quadrant. Their relationship is mentioned as part of Quinn’s life at Basgiath and adds another personal layer to her character beyond her role as a rider. |
Dragon
Cruth
Quinn bonded with Cruth, an orange daggertail dragon who became her partner during her time in the Riders Quadrant. Their bond allowed Quinn to channel lesser magic and eventually manifest her signet of astral projection.
Cruth’s bond was essential to Quinn’s survival and place among the riders. Like every successful dragon bond at Basgiath, it marked the moment Quinn moved from being a cadet who survived the early trials of the Riders Quadrant to a rider with access to magic, power, and a place in the larger conflict shaping Navarre.
Through Cruth, Quinn became a valuable member of her squad and later of the Revolution. Her dragon bond did not only give her power; it also connected her to the wider network of riders fighting against venin, wyvern, and the secrets hidden by Navarre’s leadership.
