Location
The Factory Outpost is constructed in the river north of the city’s primary headquarters, directly below Paladia’s hydroelectric dam. Raised atop enormous reinforced pillars, the structure stands above even the highest seasonal storm floods while remaining close enough to draw power directly from the dam’s generators.
Its placement makes it uniquely valuable: insulated from the city proper, physically resilient, and supplied with uninterrupted electricity. At its height, the Outpost functions as one of Paladia’s most important industrial production sites.
Description
The Factory Outpost is conceived as a vast satellite complex—part factory, part residential city—built to support heavy industrial alchemy and the labor force required to sustain it. Massive concrete and metal walls enclose the structure, creating a dense, vertical environment that functions more as a sealed labyrinth than a conventional district.
During the early stages of the war, both the Resistance and the Undying seek control of the Outpost for its potential use in weapons manufacturing. The industrial sections are violently contested and heavily sabotaged through advanced alchemical means, leaving machinery deliberately transmuted into unstable or inert forms. The resulting damage is so extensive that full restoration becomes impossible: entire factory wings collapse or are sealed off, and internal power distribution fails.
While the industrial areas are devastated, the residential tenements remain largely intact and densely occupied, becoming shelter for displaced civilians and laborers. Continued fighting risks destabilising the hydroelectric dam above, and the Outpost is ultimately abandoned by both sides. It now exists in a state of enforced neglect—inhabited but strategically ignored.
Within the tenements, a small number of units remain accessible. One such second-floor apartment, identified by a scratched-off door number and minimal furnishings, is used for meetings between Kaine Ferron and Helena Marino. The space consists of a single room with a cracked tile floor, stained walls, a wooden table, and two chairs, lit unevenly by a shattered skylight overhead.
Relevance
Although the Factory Outpost no longer holds strategic or industrial value, it remains narratively significant as the location of multiple meetings between Kaine Ferron and Helena Marino. Its abandonment, isolation, and lack of institutional oversight make it suitable for controlled encounters away from Central, the Alchemy Institute, and other monitored spaces.
