Location

The Cabin, also known as the House of Mist, is located in a remote stretch of the Illyrian Mountains. It sits tucked between two upper fangs of the range, which shield it from the wind and isolate it from any nearby settlement. Nothing surrounds the cabin for miles in any direction, creating complete seclusion. The building is also protected by wards that prevent anyone from winnowing in.

The Cabin

Description

The cabin is a small, wood-paneled retreat with a simple layout: a main room that combines the kitchen and living area, a short hall leading to two bedrooms, and a shared bathing room. A large hearth heats the entire space. The kitchen includes wood counters, a stove, and a small dining table, while the living area features a leather sofa covered in furs. Each bedroom contains closets, drawers, and a large bed, and a supply closet sits off the main room.

The cabin is spelled to respond to magic, allowing its systems to operate on command. Mor can unlock the door, light the fire, warm the water, and provide food with a single gesture. The enchantments also handle practical needs: filling the tub, changing bedding, and maintaining the space when requested. The bathing room features a deep, sunken tub built to accommodate Illyrian wings.

Relevance

Morrigan and Rhysand were sent to the cabin as children for periods of “reflection,” and Rhys often smuggled in books and alcohol for her during those stays. Rhysand, Azriel, and Cassian also used the cabin as a retreat, spending a week there each autumn.

In A Court of Mist and Fury, Mor brings Feyre Archeron to the cabin after discovering that Rhys is her mate, giving Feyre space to process the truth. Mor checks on her daily and leaves food without entering. Feyre finds paint and art supplies in the closet—left by Amren from a previous attempt at learning to paint—and spends several days covering the interior walls with seasonal landscapes, floral motifs, depictions of the Inner Circle, and symbolic imagery tied to each member. Mor later asks Feyre to add Azriel’s eyes, and then Cassian’s. Mor herself paints stick figures near the storeroom door.

Feyre and Rhysand reunite at the cabin after she has finished much of the painting. She shares a meal with him, completing the ritual that anchors their mating bond, and they sleep together for the first time. Feyre continues painting the cabin over the next five days.

In A Court of Frost and Starlight, Feyre and Rhys return to the cabin on Winter Solstice night with the intention of trying to conceive a child.
