Biography / History
In the Autumn Court, Beron Vanserra fathered seven sons, including Lucien Vanserra. When Lucien fell in love with a lesser faerie, Beron deemed the match unacceptable and had the female executed, forcing Lucien to witness her death. Devastated, Lucien fled the Autumn Court and sought refuge in the Spring Court, where Tamlin made him his Emissary.
After the Treaty with humans, Amarantha began visiting the Prythian Courts. Like the other High Lords, Beron lost most of his power when Amarantha tricked and overpowered them. He and his Court were forced to live Under the Mountain for forty-nine years, bound by Amarantha’s rule until Tamlin could break her curse by finding a mortal who hated faeries yet fell in love with him.
A Court of Thorns and Roses
Beron does not appear directly in this book, but his influence is felt through his son Lucien’s backstory and the dynamics of the Autumn Court. He is known as a cruel and politically ruthless High Lord, feared by his family and subjects alike. His court is described as cold, harsh, and rigidly hierarchical—reflecting his temperament and rule.
A Court of Wings and Ruin
Beron attends the High Lords’ meeting at the Dawn Court with his wife and sons. He quickly proves hostile, needling Feyre, Rhysand, and especially Mor. When he insults Mor and threatens her safety, Azriel attacks him and nearly kills him, but is stopped when Feyre intervenes. Despite Beron’s provocations and posturing, he ultimately agrees—begrudgingly—to join the alliance against Hybern once Rhysand reveals Feyre’s resurrection and the truth about her powers.
Later, during the war, Beron brings the Autumn Court’s army to the battlefield but fights only out of duty and political pressure, not loyalty. He clashes verbally with Tarquin and the other High Lords and shows no remorse for past cruelty toward his wife or children. During the final confrontation with Hybern’s forces, Beron fights on the northern flank alongside Tamlin’s forces and the mortal army led by Jurian.
After the war, Beron retreats with his court, leaving political tensions unresolved and his future alliances uncertain.

Relationships
| Lucien Vanserra | Beron long suspected that Lucien was not his biological son due to his wife’s past affair with Helion, High Lord of the Day Court. This suspicion fueled his deep resentment toward Lucien. When Lucien fell in love with a lesser faerie named Jesminda and intended to marry her, Beron became enraged. Believing the match beneath a High Fae noble, he ordered Jesminda’s execution and forced Lucien to watch while two of his eldest sons restrained him. Lucien cursed Beron, renounced his position, and fled the Autumn Court. Beron then commanded his remaining sons to hunt him down. Eris refused and was imprisoned to keep him from helping his brother, though he still managed to warn Tamlin so Lucien could be protected once he crossed into the Spring Court. Lucien took refuge in the Spring Court, but without the protection of his Autumn Court title, three of his brothers attempted to kill him. Lucien killed one, Tamlin killed another, and the third escaped back to Autumn to report to Beron. After Tamlin named Lucien his emissary, Beron kept minimal contact with his youngest son and never apologized for Jesminda’s death. |
