Biography / History
When Amarantha seized control of Prythian, she released numerous dark faeries across the Courts. Among them was the Attor, one of her most loyal and sadistic servants.
A Court of Thorns and Roses
Amarantha dispatched the Attor to the Spring Court as a warning to Tamlin, reminding him that his time was running out to break her curse by winning the love of a mortal woman who despised the Fae. Sensing its approach, Tamlin placed a powerful glamour on Feyre to conceal her presence, ensuring the creature could neither see nor sense her.
After Tamlin and the Spring Court were taken Under the Mountain, Feyre infiltrated Amarantha’s domain through a hidden passage. She was captured by the Attor and brought before Amarantha, where she agreed to complete three trials to save Tamlin and Prythian. Following her acceptance, the Attor and other faeries brutally beat her, causing severe injuries, including a fractured nose. When Amarantha was ultimately killed by Tamlin, the Attor fled.
A Court of Mist and Fury
After escaping, the Attor sought refuge in Hybern, bringing with him the remains of Jurian — specifically his eye and finger, which contained fragments of his soul. Using the Cauldron, the King of Hybern resurrected Jurian and began preparations to destroy the Wall and reclaim the Mortal Lands.
While Feyre was training in the Mortal Lands, the Attor ambushed her on Hybern’s orders, attempting to abduct her. Rhysand and Azriel intercepted him, capturing the creature and transporting him to the Court of Nightmares for interrogation. After extracting his secrets, they crushed his wings and left him broken on Hybern’s coastline as a warning.
When the Mortal Queens learned that one of their own had secretly gifted the Night Court their half of the Book of Breathings, they allied with Jurian and the King of Hybern. Hybern later launched an attack on Velaris using a legion of faeries similar to the Attor, with the Attor himself leading the assault. During the chaos, he murdered the queen who had aided the Night Court.
Attempting to flee, the Attor seized Feyre and lifted her into the air. Feyre used the fire-based magic borrowed from Beron, High Lord of Autumn, to burn away the creature’s flesh. As it begged for mercy, she killed it with three stab wounds — one for Rhysand, one for Clare Beddor, and one for herself — before releasing its body to fall to its death. This victory contributed to Feyre being honored as the Defender of the Rainbow for protecting Velaris.
A Court of Wings and Ruin
Later, when Feyre and Cassian visited the Prison to seek the Bone Carver’s aid in the war, they offered a bone from the Attor as tribute, explaining it was all that remained after its death in Velaris.
Jurian later revealed the fate of Demetra, the golden queen: after she secretly surrendered her half of the Book of Breathings to the Night Court, the remaining queens delivered her to the Attor, who tortured and killed her at their command.
Appearance and Personality
The Attor possessed a tall, skeletal frame with large leathery wings, elongated claws, and sharp silver fangs. Its features blended humanoid and monstrous elements, giving it a predatory, bat-like silhouette. Its voice carried an eerie, shifting quality—low, distorted, and distinctly inhuman.
The Attor was known for its cruelty and vindictive nature, taking pleasure in inflicting pain on both humans and faeries. Despite its brutality, it demonstrated clear cowardice when confronted with its own death, ultimately begging for mercy before being slain.
