✦ LUNAR LIBRARY OATH ✦

Find the Safety Clause

This oath has a lot of “creepy-but-legal” language. Your job isn’t to find a trick — it’s to find the one clause that genuinely protects you.

Today
THE LUNAR LIBRARY
Borrower Oath & Visitor Notice

1. The Library grants the Borrower one quiet hour between the stacks, renewable at the Librarian’s discretion.

2. The Borrower agrees to keep voices low and lanterns shaded in all reading rooms and corridors.

3. The Library may log general visitation metrics (time of entry, room occupancy) to prevent overcrowding.

4. The Library shall never sell, share, or publish the Borrower’s reading history or checkout list—no partners, no exceptions.

5. The Borrower acknowledges that some volumes may “respond” and agrees not to blame the Library for unsettling dreams.

6. If a book is damaged or lost, the Borrower must replace it with a compatible edition, as determined by the Librarian.

7. The Borrower may leave at any time; the Library will not impede exit, detain guests, or demand “one last chapter.”

Borrower: ____________________
Librarian: ____________________
Note: “compatible edition” refers to binding, pagination, and margin notes (if present).
Mainstream green flag: the best clause is the one that limits data use in plain language and leaves no wiggle room.
