Location
The Winter Court lies south of the Dawn Court and borders both the Summer Court and the Autumn Court to the south. Its position places it in the central northern region of Prythian’s Seasonal Courts.
Description
The Winter Court is composed of tall, elegant palaces decorated with evergreens and warmed by large hearths. Travel through the court commonly uses carved sleighs pulled by velvet-antlered reindeer, whose wide hooves allow steady movement across ice and snow.
Its forces are well trained and supported by the great white bears that roam the territory; these bears are armored during wartime. White foxes serve as couriers, carrying messages in embroidered vests.
Relevance
The Winter Court was established when Prythian was divided into seven courts after the War. Its High Lord, Kallias, rules alongside his wife and mate, Viviane.
During Amarantha’s occupation, the Court was affected like the other courts, and Kallias lost much of his power under her control. A group of Winter Court citizens rebelled Under the Mountain, which led Amarantha to consider executing Kallias. Although the execution was prevented, she ordered the slaughter of two dozen Winter Court children and had a daemati shatter their minds, an act later mistakenly attributed to Rhysand.
In A Court of Wings and Ruin, Feyre and Lucien flee the Spring Court and cross the Winter Court’s territory while being hunted by Lucien’s brothers. The confrontation reaches a frozen lake in the Winter Court, where Cassian and Azriel arrive and rescue them, driving off the pursuers.
