Location
The Library is housed within a vast cavern carved deep into the mountain beneath the House of Wind in the Night Court. It stretches through multiple underground levels, forming an extensive subterranean space hidden far below the estate.
Description
The Library is a vast, subterranean network carved directly into the mountain beneath the House of Wind. A sloping walkway leads into the main space, where lamps flicker to life as visitors enter. The floors are smooth red stone, polished and consistent with the rest of the mountain’s interior.
At its center lies a massive, hollow pit descending deep into darkness. Around this open shaft, the library spirals downward in multiple levels of carved stone platforms, each lined with shelves and reading areas. The shelves are built either into the mountain rock or crafted from dark, solid wood, and many passageways extend from them into the mountain’s interior like spokes of a wheel.
Throughout the levels are reading alcoves furnished with tables, cushioned chairs, and glass lamps. Some areas include carved stone fireplaces set far from any shelving, with ancient woven rugs laid out before them. The deeper levels stretch far into the mountain, creating a space that is both immense and enclosed, warm despite its scale and the abyss at its core.
Relevance
The Library beneath the House of Wind serves as a refuge for priestesses who survived violence and trauma. Clotho was brought here after being tortured and maimed by a group of men; Rhysand identified her attackers through her memories, and Mor later executed them. Clotho remained in the library as a priestess, joining the small group who live and work there and who control access to the space.
The library also houses Bryaxis on its lowest level, contained in a deep pit. Cassian once descended to face the creature but immediately fled, refusing to speak about what he saw.
During the events surrounding the Wall’s weakening, Feyre and Rhysand visited the library to research its history and repair methods. Clotho assisted them, setting aside relevant books and providing a reading area. When the Ravens of Hybern attempted to abduct Nesta Archeron inside the library, Feyre invoked Bryaxis for help in exchange for conversation. The Ravens were killed during the confrontation. Throughout this period, Feyre returned repeatedly to study the Wall’s structure and its vulnerabilities.
In A Court of Silver Flames, the library becomes a key part of Nesta’s healing, training, and integration into the Night Court, though the full details are ongoing in that narrative.
