Biography / History

The Ouroboros, often called the Mirror of Beginnings and Endings, is an ancient and dangerous magical artifact tied to the Weaver and her siblings. Unlike ordinary mirrors, the Ouroboros does not simply reflect appearance—it reveals the deepest and most honest truth of the person who gazes into it.

At some point in the past, the mirror passed from the Weaver’s possession into the hands of Keir, the ruler of the Court of Nightmares and Morrigan’s father. How the artifact ended up in Keir’s collection remains unknown.

A Court of Wings and Ruin

During the war preparations against Hybern, Feyre Archeron seeks the help of the Bone Carver, one of the ancient death-gods imprisoned in Prythian. The Bone Carver agrees to join the fight—but only if Feyre retrieves the Ouroboros for him.

The mirror once belonged to his sister, Stryga (the Weaver), and is now kept by Keir in the Court of Nightmares. Feyre successfully steals the artifact and brings it to the Bone Carver.

Many believe that anyone who looks into the Ouroboros will lose their sanity, as the mirror forces the viewer to confront their true nature without illusion or self-deception. Feyre, however, manages to withstand the experience, proving her strength and self-awareness.

Although the Bone Carver initially claims the request was only a test of Feyre’s worth, his reaction upon receiving the mirror suggests that the artifact holds genuine value to him. The mirror may allow him to see his true face—something normally hidden due to the nature of his magic.

Appearance

The Ouroboros is a massive circular mirror, slightly taller than Feyre Archeron. Its reflective surface is set within a heavy bronze frame shaped like a serpent devouring its own tail, forming a perfect circle.

This design represents the ancient symbol of the ouroboros, associated with cycles, eternity, and the endless connection between beginnings and endings.

Powers

The mirror possesses powerful truth magic. Anyone who looks into it is confronted with their true self in its entirety, stripped of illusion, denial, or comforting lies. Because most people cannot endure such complete honesty about their nature, the mirror has a reputation for driving those who look into it mad. Only individuals capable of accepting every aspect of themselves—both light and darkness—can survive the experience.
