Moonstone Palace

Description

The Moonstone Palace is built entirely from shimmering moonstone. It rises above a gray-stoned mountain, directly over the Court of Nightmares. Its halls are open to the elements, with no windows, only towering pillars and gossamer curtains that shift in the jasmine-scented breeze. Protective magic keeps the palace warm despite the high altitude and the snow covering the surrounding peaks. Protective magic keeps the palace warm despite the altitude and the snow that coats the surrounding peaks.

Inside, the palace is arranged into seating, dining, and work areas divided by curtains, lush plants, and thick rugs spread across the moonstone floors. Colored-glass lanterns and floating lights illuminate the open spaces, while white-marble walls are punctuated by doorways leading into dim stairwells. The main hall ends in a veranda open to the night sky, used as a dining area with a small glass table and three upholstered chairs.

The palace also contains a private library where Rhysand teaches Feyre to read and shield her mind. It includes a war room housed in a round tower chamber. The room features a circular black stone table and a massive map covering the largest wall. Many open windows surround the space.

Relevance

Rhysand brings Feyre to the Moonstone Palace after interrupting her wedding in A Court of Mist and Fury, taking her there under the terms of their bargain. The palace serves as his private residence above the Court of Nightmares, and entry is forbidden to anyone who values their life, with the exception of Morrigan, who stays there when she is not in Velaris.

In A Court of Wings and Ruin, Keir demands access to both the Moonstone Palace and Velaris in exchange for the Autumn Court’s support in the war against Hybern.

In A Court of Silver Flames, the palace is used as a secure location after Nesta retrieves the Mask from the Bog of Oorid. Rhysand locks the Mask behind powerful wards in one of the palace rooms. Nesta is found inside despite the wards, leading to further discussions about the Mask and the events in the Bog. She remains at the palace to rest, and later shares a significant moment with Cassian in her bathing chamber. The Moonstone Palace is also where Helion meets with the Inner Circle to discuss the captured Autumn Court soldier and later teaches Nesta the basics of warding magic.
