Biography / History
Ancient Origins
The Bone Carver explains that long ago, in a world before Prythian existed, he and his two siblings—Koschei and Stryga—crossed into this realm of their own free will. All three possessed immense, godlike power by the standards of the ancient Fae who lived here. Those Fae came to worship them as deities, a reverence that Koschei and Stryga eagerly embraced, though the Bone Carver himself did not.
Among the siblings, the Bone Carver admits he is the weakest, and that fear of Koschei and Stryga drove him to hide from the world. He eventually allowed himself to be locked in the Prison by the same ancient female who had already tricked Stryga into diminishing her power and “confined and bound” Koschei to a lake on the continent.
Koschei’s Power and Imprisonment
Koschei is regarded as a powerful and sinister sorcerer, feared for his magic and for his obsession with imprisoning women. Bound to his lake by ancient magic, he remains trapped there—yet still exerts influence across the continent through enchantments, bargains, and curses.
The Curse on Vassa
Koschei is the sorcerer responsible for cursing Vassa, transforming her into a firebird by day and a woman by night, and binding her fate to his enchanted lake. Although he later grants her a temporary reprieve, allowing her to live in the Mortal Lands south of Prythian, her freedom is not permanent; she is still compelled to return to him eventually.
