Location
The Illyrian Mountains are a vast mountain range in the northern region of the Night Court. They form the homeland of the Illyrian people. The range is known for its rugged peaks, harsh climate, and remote terrain. Deep within these mountains lies the sacred training ground used for the Illyrian Blood Rite. This site is a defining part of Illyrian culture and warrior tradition.
Relevance
During A Court of Mist and Fury, Rhysand and Feyre travel through this region to monitor Illyrian warrior activity in preparation for the looming conflict with Hybern. After leaving the inn on the Illyrian Steppes, they head into the mountain forests to train, where Rhys is shot with ash-wood arrows laced with faebane. Hybern soldiers capture him and take him to a cave in the Illyrian Mountains, where he is restrained with ancient chains and flogged. Feyre tracks him into the mountains, kills the soldiers guarding him, and winnows them both to safety.
In A Court of Silver Flames, the Illyrian Mountains host the Blood Rite, an ancient Illyrian trial that forbids magic, weapons, and outside interference. Nesta Archeron, Gwyneth Berdara, and Emerie are forced into the Rite after being abducted by rival Illyrians, and they must survive the mountain terrain and reach the summit of Ramiel while pursued by hostile participants. Their climb, the alliances they form, and the trials they endure all take place across the rugged landscape of the Illyrian mountain range.
Notable Locations
| Mount Ramiel | Mount Ramiel is a prominent peak within the Illyrian Mountains, known for the black monolith set at its summit. The mountain serves as the final destination of the Illyrian Blood Rite, where warriors must reach the monolith to complete the trial. Its barren, exposed terrain and sheer height make it one of the most demanding locations in Illyria, and it is considered a sacred site within Illyrian warrior culture. |
