Biography / History
Around five centuries before the main events, Devlon served as the war-chief and camp lord of Windhaven, the Illyrian settlement where Rhysand, Cassian, and Azriel trained as young warriors. Despite widespread prejudice against “a half-breed and two bastards,” Devlon allowed all three males to compete in the Blood Rite and honored their victories, making them full Illyrian warriors.
While fair to male warriors, Devlon upheld traditional and restrictive Illyrian customs for females. He believed women belonged in domestic roles, resisted allowing them to train, and often cited chores as a reason to bar them from the war bands. Although wing-clipping had stopped by this time, he remained firmly opposed to female warriors and frequently clashed with Rhysand over the issue.
When Rhysand later discovered that others were tracking him through his magic, he and Feyre Archeron briefly took shelter in Windhaven, where Devlon still held authority as camp leader.
Appearance
Devlon is described as a tall, stocky, broad-shouldered Illyrian male with dark hair and golden-brown skin. Like all Illyrians, he possesses powerful, membranous wings.
