Location
The Autumn Court lies in the eastern region of Prythian, forming borders with the Spring Court, Summer Court, and Winter Court. Its territory connects all three of the other seasonal courts, placing it along the eastern arc of the continent’s layout.
Description
The Autumn Court is a vibrant, richly colored realm defined by forests that look like a living jewelry box. The forests are filled with vivid reds, golds, browns, and greens. Beyond its sweeping woods stretch wide farmlands and fields where Lesser Faeries work the fertile soil. The court’s landscape includes lush valleys and jade-green streams that rise into steep foothills and then into the gray, snowcapped mountains shared with the Winter Court to the north. To the west, the Autumn Court borders the Summer Court, while the Spring Court lies to the south.
At the center of the territory stands the Forest House, the massive residence of the High Lord. Built into trees, rock, and earth, only its upper levels are visible above ground, while multiple levels descend deep into the stone below. Its sprawling layout stretches so wide that walking from one end to the other can take half a morning. Layers of sentries guard it from every angle. They are hidden in the trees, stationed on the ground, posted along moss-covered shingles, and watching from the stone itself. The sentries ensure that no one approaches or leaves without the High Lord’s knowledge.
Relevance
The Autumn Court is one of Prythian’s original seven Courts and is ruled by High Lord Beron Vanserra. Beron and his wife have seven sons, including Eris and Lucien, though Lucien is secretly the son of Helion, High Lord of the Day Court. Lucien’s relationship with the Lesser Fae Jesminda ended in tragedy when Beron ordered her execution, forcing Lucien to watch while his brothers held him down. Lucien fled the Autumn Court afterward, and when several of his brothers pursued him, two were killed—one by Lucien and one by Tamlin—after Eris warned them of the attack.
Five hundred years before the events of the series, Eris was betrothed to Morrigan of the Night Court. When he learned she did not want the marriage and had lain with Cassian, he rejected the arrangement. Mor was abandoned at the Autumn Court border with a note nailed to her, and years later, Eris admitted he intended to give her a way out rather than claim her.
In A Court of Wings and Ruin, Feyre and Lucien travel through the Autumn Court while fleeing the Spring Court, crossing its forests and farmlands as Beron’s sons hunt them across the territory.
