Illyrian Mountains

The Illyrian Mountains are a remote northern mountain range in the Night Court, known for their harsh terrain, war-camps, and ancient traditions. The region is home to key Illyrian strongholds, including the training grounds used in preparation for the war against Hybern, the cave where Hybern’s soldiers captured and tortured Rhysand, and the sites where Feyre tracked and rescued him. The mountains also host the Illyrian Blood Rite, held around Mount Ramiel — a sacred peak marked by an ancient monolith.

Relevance

During A Court of Mist and Fury, Rhysand and Feyre travel through this region to monitor Illyrian warrior activity in preparation for the looming conflict with Hybern. After leaving the inn on the Illyrian Steppes, they head into the mountain forests to train, where Rhys is shot with ash-wood arrows laced with faebane. Hybern soldiers capture him and take him to a cave in the Illyrian Mountains, where he is restrained with ancient chains and flogged. Feyre tracks him into the mountains, kills the soldiers guarding him, and winnows them both to safety.

In A Court of Silver Flames, the Illyrian Mountains host the Blood Rite, an ancient Illyrian trial that forbids magic, weapons, and outside interference. Nesta Archeron, Gwyneth Berdara, and Emerie are forced into the Rite after being abducted by rival Illyrians, and they must survive the mountain terrain and reach the summit of Ramiel while pursued by hostile participants. Their climb, the alliances they form, and the trials they endure all take place across the rugged landscape of the Illyrian mountain range.
