Location
Storr is an isolated granite island in the Northern Sea. It serves as neutral territory for meetings between Prythian and the continent, rather than between Prythian’s seven courts.
In A Court of Splintered Harmony, Feyre, Rhysand, and Morrigan travel to Storr for negotiations with representatives from Vallahan and Montesere.
Description
Storr is an exposed, wave-battered rock with freezing winds and salt spray sweeping across its shoreline. Unusually geometric boulders line the shore. Feyre observes no grass, trees, seaweed or birds, including gulls.
A round stone building stands at the centre of the island. This ancient meeting place consists of a large chamber containing a circular stone table and matching chairs. Orange lichen coats the furniture, indicating that it is rarely used.
Oxidized braziers line the walls. A large hearth is carved into the shape of an open sea serpent’s mouth, with broken stone fangs lying among the rubble on its moss-covered hearthstones. Lighting the braziers and the hearth does little to make the chamber more welcoming.
The island’s neutrality is reinforced by magical oaths that prevent wards and magical traps from being laid. These protections do not prohibit all magic or prevent concealed visitors from entering: Azriel remains hidden near the sealed stone doors during the negotiations, while Feyre and the Mistress of the Unseen both use magic inside the chamber.
Relevance
Neutral Meeting Ground
Storr provides an established location where representatives from Prythian and the continent can negotiate on neutral ground. The terms of the meeting in A Court of Splintered Harmony permit three delegates per group. Nine official representatives attend, while Azriel accompanies the Night Court delegation in secret.
Delegations
The Night Court: Feyre Archeron, Rhysand and Morrigan. Mor’s diplomatic work in Vallahan helps secure the meeting. Azriel remains concealed near the chamber’s doors.
Vallahan: the King, Queen and Prince of Vallahan.
Montesere: the Grand Vizier, Valderic, Duke of Bernion, and the Mistress of the Unseen, a religious figure comparable to a High Priestess.
Rask does not send representatives, having failed to respond to the Night Court’s invitations over the preceding months.
Negotiations over the Human Lands
In Chapter 2 of A Court of Splintered Harmony, the Night Court questions Vallahan and Montesere about their intentions toward the human lands to the south and their refusal to sign a proposed new treaty.
The continental delegates argue that the Fae should reclaim lands lost after the war five centuries earlier. The Duke of Bernion describes displaced Fae populations and proposes that a campaign could restore former homelands while uniting fragmented territories. Feyre challenges their position, defending humans’ right to land and independence after generations of enslavement.
The Queen of Vallahan disputes the Night Court’s authority to influence affairs on the continent or speak on behalf of humans. The Grand Vizier also notes that the proposed treaty lacks the support of all Prythian’s High Lords, specifically mentioning Autumn and Spring.
The Dread Trove and Made Weapons
Feyre and Azriel have a second purpose for attending the meeting. Following information obtained by Azriel in Montesere’s mountains, they investigate whether any delegate possesses a Made object or has recently used one. Neither detects such an object or its lingering magical presence, although Feyre acknowledges that their findings may not be conclusive.
The continental representatives reveal that they know about the Night Court’s possession of the Dread Trove. They argue that Rhysand’s access to ancient weapons justifies their own attempts to acquire comparable power. Their remarks reinforce the Night Court’s information that a search for a Made weapon is underway.
Feyre proposes including a pledge not to use the Trove in the treaty, but the Queen of Vallahan rejects its credibility. When the Duke of Bernion asks whether Rhysand would use the Trove to stop an invasion of human territory if his armies proved insufficient, Rhysand does not answer.
The Mistress of the Unseen
The Mistress of the Unseen performs a religious blessing before the negotiations. Her tattoos glow, forming additional eyes, and Feyre senses a presence distinct from the Mother’s. Rhysand identifies the display as ancient spellwork.
The Mistress questions whether Nyx has been dedicated to the Mother, claiming that the Unseen have told her of his unbound soul. The Queen of Vallahan then makes a pointed remark about the dangers of excluding people from important celebrations. Mor challenges the apparent implication of a curse, which the queen denies.
