Biography / History
The Veritas has been in Mor’s family for millennia, regarded as one of their most sacred and closely guarded heirlooms. Keir—Mor’s father and the Steward of the Court of Nightmares—keeps the orb secured within his private chambers.
A Court of Mist and Fury
Rhysand, Feyre Archeron, Mor, Cassian, and Azriel travel to the Court of Nightmares with the goal of stealing the Veritas to present undeniable proof to the Mortal Queens. Since the queens refused to set foot in Prythian, the group needed the orb to show them the truth of Velaris and demonstrate Rhysand’s genuine intentions for peace. While Rhys distracts Keir, Azriel quietly steals the orb.
The Veritas successfully reveals Velaris to the queens—an object familiar to human lore from the War—yet they still withhold their half of the Book of Breathings. With its purpose fulfilled, the group discreetly returns the orb to Keir without his knowledge that it had ever been removed.
A Court of Silver Flames
Rhys later entrusts the Veritas to Mor so she can share with Nesta Archeron her memories of dances throughout the Hewn City, the Autumn Court, and beyond, helping Nesta prepare for her required performance with Eris Vanserra at the Winter Solstice ball in the Court of Nightmares.
Appearance
The Veritas is housed within a simple black box. The artifact itself is a smooth silver orb, no larger than a ripe apple, small enough to rest easily in Morrigan’s palm.
When activated, a pale mist stirs within the sphere before spilling outward as drifting clouds. These clouds form a vivid illusion—such as the vision of Velaris seen through Rhysand’s eyes. After the projection completes, the image dissolves, its color and light drawn back into the orb until it returns to its dormant state.
Powers
The Veritas contains truth-magic that allows it to display scenes exactly as they are, creating clear, unquestionable visions that cannot be altered or falsified.
